hot shower
Friday, May 14

i love to take a hot shower when i'm sad.

to turn on the shower and turn up the heat, letting the water work its way through the hose before finally bursting forth from the shower head.

to let my body feel the sudden forray of hot water as it takes the place of the surrounding cool air, to let my skin feel the biting heat of the water as it courses down as a torrent from head to toe, to let every tingle of my spine be stopped mid-journey as the heat kills it on its way up my spine.

there's just this certain something about hot water.

the warmth one feels is so comforting, numbing every little ache as it gives a gentle massage while running down the course of the body, with every inch of skin fighting just to get into the path of the water body. and even as the face finally gets its reward of a feel of the heat, lifting my head toward the onslaught of the water from shower head, water and tears fall from the face as one convoluted mess, the tears lost, disguised, never seen, never known to have taken form in this plane of existence.

and then, the shower is over.

the water is shut off, and the heat that used to fill the shower area slowly dissipates, and the water droplets on my skin slowly evaporate, removing heat with it, letting my body leave the biting heat and instead expose it to the biting chill, bringing me back to reality.

grabbing the towel and being wiped dry, stepping out of the shower area, with the entire surface of skin being exposed to the cool air which feels cold compared to the heated air of the shower area. even then, the body wars with the environment.

the comparatively cool air sends chills down the spine, while the muscles desperately attempt to lose heat after being warmed up by the ceaseless flow of hot water, causing beads of sweat to form quickly, which then evaporate, causing one to feel all the more colder. the body is in a conflict as to what to do, and how to respond. and nothing could mirror the sentiments of the mind any better.

i took a hot shower today.
